Rocket Mortgage Classic betting guide 2020: Prop bets, matchup plays by data scientist who’s called 11 winners

Watch Now: Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview: Breaking Down The Field (1:11)

An underdog story could be in the works this week when the PGA Tour returns to Detroit Golf Club for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Last year, Nate Lashley, ranked No. 353 in the world, squeaked into the tournament as the final qualifier and then shot 25-under for a stunning six-shot victory. He’s back in the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic field along with six of the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Bettors love favorites, though, and world No. 10 Bryson DeChambeau is drawing plenty of action. He’s down to 6-1 in the latest 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds from William Hill, followed by Webb Simpson (12-1), Tyrell Hatton (16-1), Patrick Reed (16-1) Hideki Matsuyama (18-1), Viktor Hovland (22-1) Sungjae Im (22-1), Rickie Fowler (33-1) and Tony Finau (33-1). Before locking in any 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic picks or prop bets, be sure to see the golf predictions, tips, matchup plays and 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic betting guide from SportsLine data scientist Rick Gehman.

With his data-driven approach to betting golf, Rick Gehman continues to crush sportsbooks. Over the last eight tournaments, Gehman’s golf picks are up $4,554 for $100 players.

Two weeks ago at the RBC Heritage, Gehman told SportsLine readers to bet Webb Simpson to win, saying he “certainly appreciates the books dropping Simpson all the way down to 30-1” following a poor performance the week before and noting Harbour Town was a perfect course for his game. The result: Simpson fired a record 22-under to win his second event this year.

Last week, Gehman played Doc Redman to make the top 20, a 15-2 longshot bet, and backed Paul Casey over Joaquin Niemann in a head-to-head matchup. Redman tied for 11th, Casey bested Niemann by seven strokes, and Gehman’s followers pocketed two more easy winners.

Now, Gehman, co-host of CBS Sports’ “First Cut Podcast,” has analyzed the latest 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and revealed his picks to win, top prop bets and head-to-head picks. He’s sharing all of it at SportsLine.

Top 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic prop bets

For the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2020, Gehman is backing Will Gordon to win his matchup with Maverick McNealy. The bet is -110 (risk $110 to win $100) for either side.

“I love a player who is hungry, and no golfer is as hungry as Will Gordon,” Gehman told SportsLine. “He’s now playing on a special temporary membership and has to earn enough money and points to secure his PGA Tour card for the upcoming season.”

“Despite the lack of name value, Gordon has performed well during his short stint on the Tour,” Gehman added. “He notched a top-10 finish at the RSM Classic, top-20s at Torrey Pines and the Puerto Rico Open, and then tied for third last week in Connecticut. All of those are within his last five starts on Tour.”

How to make 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic picks

Gehman also has isolated three players to win, including two mammoth long shots higher than 40-1. Anyone who backs these underdogs could hit it big. You can only see who they are, plus all of Gehman’s top prop bets, here.

So who wins the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic? And which long shots stun the golfing world?
